What to Expect During the Medical Examination?

The TB screening program coordinated by the UK Home Office aims to protect public health through the detection of active pulmonary tuberculosis.

The standard examination includes:

  • Medical questionnaire and symptom assessment;
  • Verification of contact history with active TB cases;
  • General clinical examination;
  • Digital Chest X-ray (CXR).

Special Protocols and Important Notices:

  • Pregnant Women | Important Notice: Please inform our medical staff when booking your appointment if you are pregnant or suspect you might be. Under the regulations of CNCAN (National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control) and the Ministry of Health applicable in Romania, chest X-rays during any trimester of pregnancy are strictly prohibited for screening/prophylactic purposes (in the absence of direct clinical indications/existing health issues). In these circumstances, pregnant applicants may choose either to postpone the X-ray examination until after delivery or to undergo evaluation via sputum testing (collecting sputum samples over 3 consecutive days), in accordance with protocols approved by the UK Home Office.
  • Children under 11 years of age: Routine chest X-rays are not performed. Evaluation is based on clinical examination and the certificate issued by the family doctor.

Issuance of the TB Clearance Certificate & Additional Testing

  • Favorable Outcome: In the absence of any suspicion of active pulmonary TB, the TB Clearance Certificate will be issued in accordance with UK immigration authority standards.
  • Additional Investigations / Specialist Consultations:

If clinical examination or chest X-ray indicates unclear changes or suspected lung disease, the protocol requires further testing or a specialist pulmonology consultation.

Important Note: The cost of any additional pulmonology consultation, sputum sampling, or other secondary recommended tests is not included in the standard base fee listed below and must be paid separately.
